ABSTRACT SUBMISSION.  ASSESSMENT OF ABSTRACTS

ABSTRACT SUBMISSION will be open on Wednesday 24 February 2010.  The abstract  form may be viewed on this web site and all abstracts must be submitted  online.  The closing date for submission is MONDAY 17 MAY 2010.

Abstracts must be on breast cancer, primarily they should be on research, although that is defined widely (ie) clinical or laboratory based; basic, translational and clinical; on all subjects within breast cancer – diagnosis, biology, surgery, oncology, psychology, imaging, pathology, genetic radiology etc.  These may be describing new equipment or techniques (especially evaluation), new growth factors, relation of tumour biology to outcomes, evaluation of new surgical or radiotherapeutic techniques, reports of outcomes from single or joint hospitals.

Apart from some new technologies which appear exciting abstracts should include results (eg) not be only on designs of new trials or studies.  Studies must have objective and measurable results.  Simple descriptions of new operative or radiotherapeutic techniques or new equipment are not acceptable, nor are case reports.

Abstract judgement by the Scientific Committee

Around 100 papers will be selected for oral presentation (20 in plenary sessions given 10 minutes each with 5 minutes discussion and the others in parallel sessions for 6 minutes each with 5 minutes discussion).  The remaining papers suitable for presentation are selected for poster sessions and divided to groups.  As well as showing the poster in the usual way, each group sit down for a 2 minute oral presentation of each poster presented with approximately 4 minutes discussion.

Abstracts of oral presentations are published by the European Journal of Cancer.  This year it is hoped that in addition authors of poster presentations will be listed.

The abstracts are judged by the Scientific Committee.  The scores suggested are: 0 – rejected; 2 – possible poster (or) rejected; 4 - definitely suitable for poster with oral  presentation in poster sessions; 6 – suitable for read paper in parallel session; 8 – very good paper suitable for plenary presentation; 10 – outstanding paper, would grace any international meeting!

The members of the Scientific Committee meet to make their final decisions, which are not entirely based on the score sheets and the session at which accepted abstracts will be presented.  That meeting will be held on 1 June and you will be informed of the acceptance and placement (date and time) of your abstract within the meeting  in the week commencing 14 June.

Abstracts will be published in the European Journal of Cancer.
